Never too early, never too late to start

One thing that I want to share with mommies is the importance of teaching our children from the Word of God at home. Your children are never too young to get started. And, if you feel like you're "so far behind" and your children are too old, start NOW.

What works for us is to have Bible time as one of the first things in the morning after breakfast. For us it's best to have it before play time or tv time. We start with reading from the Bible (we're going through Proverbs right now), then move to singing scripture songs/hymns, and then finish with memory verses. It's amazing to see the capacity of a child's mind to memorize. It really blesses our mornings and helps our day to be more structured.

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."

Deuteronomy 6:4-7

i think that's great! we too read through proverbs at breakfast...we read the chapter that is the day of the month.

we have recently (past few months) started family worship at night. it is great!! just reading the word of God, catechism, praying together and singing the psalms.

i agree that early is good. that way we are already in the habit (a good thing) of doing it while wyatt is so young. i pray the Lord will keep us faithful.

Laura, how encouraging it is to read your comment!! That's wonderful what you are doing already with Wyatt. I imagine some would think he's way too young, but I think it's SO important to start early. I love your last sentence: "I pray the Lord will keep us faithful." Amen!

Thank you for sharing this encouraging post and the wonderful scripture from Deuteronomy! You're right, it's never too early to start! Addi and I like to listen to her scripture songs cd while we play in the mornings. However, Blake and I don't read the Word to her as often as we should...She doesn't sit still for much;] -I think after reading your post we're going to start trying a little harder! Thanks again!
